 2018 Preview 


       Berry finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Berry finished sixth in Class 1A region five with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2003.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Berry Fayette averaged scoring just 13.3 points a game.

       Since 2010, Berry has gone a combined 56-37. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Berry has managed to compile a record of 139-124. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A and 155th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Caleb Hynds who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Berry. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hynds.

       Coach Hynds' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 3-7 (30.0%).

       The Berry Wildcats will play in Class 1A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 1A but move from region five over to region six. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 60-46 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 1A and 59th in the AHSAA.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season.

      

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Sulligent on Friday, August 24 at Fred Webster Stadium. Last year the Sulligent Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in first place in Class 2A region eight. The Blue Devils lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lanett by a score of 59-28.

       Berry and Sulligent have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 3-14-2 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2007 with Sulligent winning by a score of 29-28.

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
